CONSENT TO TRAVEL

A consent to travel (also known as a child travel consent or travel permission letter) is a document that is designed to protect children from abduction or trafficking.

The purpose of a consent to travel document is to provide permission from a parent or guardian that for a child to travel outside of the country in the following circumstances:

with only with only one parent or with parents who have different surnames.

without their parents for example on a school trip or

with friends or other relatives.

It may not always be necessary for the consent to travel document to be notarised as it depends on the requirements of the destination country. Some countries specify that the consent to travel letter must be notarised, others do not.

Having your travel permission letter signed by a notary is however recommended as this guarantees the authenticity of the document and should prevent the necessity for further investigation should it be called into question during your travels.
